Quick Answer: Kanyakumari Ferry Online Booking
Kanyakumari ferry online booking is done only on the Poompuhar Ferry Service portal (psckfs.tn.gov.in), run by Poompuhar Shipping Corporation, a Tamil Nadu government undertaking. In October 2026 the fare is ₹100 Normal or ₹300 Special Entry (priority queue, same boat). Boats run about 8 AM–4 PM, weather permitting. Book a 30-minute slot, carry photo ID, and reach the jetty 30 minutes early.
We get asked about this boat at our Vadasery counter more than about any sweet we make. If you only want the click-by-click walkthrough of the website, our glass bridge and ferry online booking steps page covers it, and the sunset and boating guide handles the evening side of the shore. This page is the handbook in between: who actually runs the ferry, what the ₹100 and ₹300 tickets really get you, what happens when the sea turns, and how long the whole crossing takes once you are standing at the jetty gate.
Kanyakumari Ferry Booking Basics: Who Runs the Boat, and From Which Jetty?
The boats belong to Poompuhar Shipping Corporation Limited (PSCL), a Government of Tamil Nadu enterprise better known in shipping circles for its coal carriers. At Kanyakumari it runs the Kanniyakumari Ferry Service from its own jetty on the eastern shore, a short walk downhill from the Kumari Amman temple and the bus stand. Look for the long covered queue sheds; autos and cabs drop you at the jetty road and you walk the last stretch.
The fleet is a small set of motor launches. Boats named ML Guhan, ML Pothigai and ML Vivekananda have carried pilgrims to the rock for decades, joined around 2020 by two newer air-conditioned vessels, ML Thamirabarani (75 passengers) and ML Thiruvalluvar. Those two now mostly run the separate coastal sightseeing trip towards Vattakottai Fort; the Thamirabarani returned to the water in January 2026 after a ₹40 lakh refit. Which boat you board on the rock run depends on the day – the name is painted on the bow, and children love spotting it.
Poompuhar Shipping Corporation Online Booking: The Official Portal
Online tickets were launched in August 2025. The site is titled Poompuhar Ferry Service and lives at psckfs.tn.gov.in; the Kanniyakumari district administration's own glass bridge page links straight to it. That is the only genuine source of e-tickets. Aggregators and "tour desks" advertising Vivekananda Rock tickets are reselling the same ₹100 ticket with a margin, or simply standing in the counter queue on your behalf.
Rules printed on the portal when we checked on 22 October 2026:
- Slots: departures are sold in 30-minute blocks, each with Normal and Special Entry seats shown separately.
- Limit: up to 20 tickets per user per day – enough for a large family or a tempo-traveller group.
- Cut-off: online booking closes 30 minutes before the slot; you are asked to report 30 minutes early.
- ID: every passenger must carry a valid government photo ID matching the name on the booking. Tickets are non-transferable.
- Cancellation: allowed up to 6 hours before departure; refunds take 2–7 working days.
Vivekananda Rock Memorial Boat Online Ticket Booking Price: Normal vs Special Entry
The question we hear most is whether the ₹300 ticket is worth it. Here is exactly what each one buys.
| Ticket | Price (Oct 2026) | What you get | Where sold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal Entry | ₹100 per person | Standard boarding queue; same boats | Portal + jetty counter |
| Special Entry | ₹300 per person | Separate Premium (priority) queue; same boats, same seats | Portal + jetty counter |
| Vivekananda Rock Memorial entry | About ₹20–₹30 | Entry to the memorial mandapams on the rock | Counter on the rock only |
Fares have climbed steadily: visitors paid ₹50/₹200 in 2019, The Week reported ₹75/₹300 in March 2025, and the portal shows ₹100/₹300 now. Older blogs quoting ₹34–₹40 are badly out of date. The portal does not spell out child concessions, so budget the full fare for anyone who needs a seat and ask at the counter about infants in arms.
Our honest view on Special Entry: on a weekday morning in, say, February, the normal queue moves in 20–40 minutes and ₹300 is wasted. On a long weekend, Pongal, the Christmas–New Year week or May holidays, when the normal line can run past two hours (The Week recorded waits of up to three hours in early 2025), ₹300 for an elderly parent or a tired child is money well spent. For a full table of what every other attraction in the district charges, see our Kanyakumari ticket prices and entry fees sheet.
How to Book Kanyakumari Boating Ticket Online (and Read Live Ticket Availability)
- Open psckfs.tn.gov.in on the evening before. Slots for the next day are usually wide open then; same-day weekend slots often are not.
- Choose your date. The slot grid shows live ticket availability for Normal and Special separately. A slot reading 0 is sold out – or already past its 30-minute cut-off.
- Pick a slot and class. The 8:00–9:30 AM slots give the calmest sea and the best light on the statue.
- Enter names exactly as on ID. Aadhaar, driving licence, passport or voter ID all work; staff may check.
- Pay and save. UPI, card and net banking. If you see a "bank server busy" message, wait and retry – it is a payment gateway timeout, not a sold-out slot. Screenshot the e-ticket because mobile data at the jetty slows to a crawl when crowds build.
Kanyakumari Jetty Online Booking vs the Counter: What Online Ferry Booking in Kanyakumari Really Gives You
An online ticket does not put you on a private boat or a guaranteed minute. What it removes is the first of two queues. At the Kanyakumari jetty there is a ticket line and a boarding line. E-ticket holders skip the ticket line entirely and join boarding for their slot; Special Entry holders board from the shorter Premium line.
The counter still sells tickets every day the boats run. On a quiet weekday arriving at 7:45 AM, the counter is perfectly fine. Where online booking earns its keep is predictability: you know before leaving your hotel that you have a seat, which matters if you have a train out of Nagercoil Junction that evening.
Is Kanyakumari boating online booking worth it? Realistic queue times by season
| When | Normal queue | Special queue | Our advice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekday, Feb–Mar or Jul–Sep, before 9 AM | 15–30 min | 5–10 min | Counter or Normal online is enough |
| Any weekday, 10 AM–2 PM | 45–90 min | 15–30 min | Book online; go early or late |
| Weekends & public holidays | 1.5–2.5 hours | 30–45 min | Book the day before; Special for seniors |
| Christmas–New Year, Pongal, April–May holidays | 2–3 hours | 45–60 min | Book 2–3 days ahead; first slot only |
| Monsoon (roughly Oct–Dec) | Short when running | Short | Book flexibly; check SMS and sea first |
These are our own observations from years of sending relatives and customers across, not published figures – crowds swing with Sabarimala season traffic and school calendars.
Kanyakumari Ferry Timings, Last Boat & Weather Cancellations
Boats run from about 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the same window the district administration lists for the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, the Thiruvalluvar Statue and the glass bridge. The last outward boat leaves around 4 PM; return boats keep shuttling until everyone on the rock is back, which can be close to 5 PM. Nobody is left on the rock overnight, but the staff will hurry you along after 4:30.
The sea decides the rest. According to the portal, sailings stop when wind exceeds roughly 25–30 knots, visibility falls below about 1 km, or the India Meteorological Department issues an alert. During the northeast monsoon (roughly October to December) that can mean a whole day lost or an afternoon cut short. Low tide is the less-known risk: on one Sunday in August the service was halted because an unusually low sea exposed rocks around the landing, as DT Next reported. The bridge itself has also been closed for short engineering inspections since it opened.
What happens to an online ticket? The portal promises suspension notices at least two hours ahead by SMS – so give a mobile number you will actually carry. You can cancel your own booking up to six hours before the slot for a refund within 2–7 working days. For a slot the operator cancels, keep the SMS and the e-ticket and use the helpline and email listed on the portal; do not book a fresh ticket until you know the boats are running again.
At the Jetty Gate by 7:45 AM
The first ferry slot is the one worth having, and it is the hardest to reach from a Nagercoil hotel or an overnight train. Our local driver network picks you up early, drops you at the jetty road as the gates open, waits while you do the rock and the statue, then carries on to Suchindram, Vattakottai or your train.
- Sedan (Dzire/Etios), SUV (Innova/Ertiga) or 12–18 seat Tempo Traveller
- Pickups from Nagercoil Junction, Kanyakumari station, hotels or Trivandrum Airport
- Complimentary welcome box of Nendran banana chips and ghee sweets – ideal for the ferry queue
- 24–48 hours' notice preferred

Thiruvalluvar Statue Boat Booking & the Full Crossing: Jetty → Rock Memorial → Statue → Return
- Jetty and boarding (8:00 AM onwards). Show the e-ticket and ID, collect and fasten a life jacket – they are compulsory and handed out at the gangway – and take a seat. Boats leave as they fill.
- Crossing (about 10 minutes). The launch rounds the headland with the temple on your left and the rock rising ahead. Spray reaches the open sides; keep phones in a zip pouch.
- Vivekananda Rock Memorial (45–60 minutes). Buy the memorial ticket at the counter after landing, leave footwear at the stand, and walk the Vivekananda Mandapam, the Shripada Mandapam with the footprint relic, and the meditation hall (silence is enforced inside).
- Glass bridge (10–20 minutes). Since 30 December 2024 a 77-metre, 10-metre-wide glass-floored arch bridge links the rock to the statue islet. No second boat is needed. The full story is in our Kanyakumari glass bridge guide.
- Thiruvalluvar Statue (20–40 minutes). The statue stands 133 feet in total – a 95-foot figure on a 38-foot pedestal for the 38 chapters on virtue in the Thirukkural. Visitors can walk around the base and up to the pedestal level; access to the upper interior has opened and closed over the years, so ask the staff on the day rather than counting on it.
- Return. Boats pick up from the landings for the ride back to the jetty. Allow 15–30 minutes of queueing here at peak times.
Time budget for the whole ferry circuit
| Stage | Quiet weekday | Busy weekend |
|---|---|---|
| Jetty entry and boarding queue | 20–30 min | 45 min–2.5 hrs |
| Crossing out | 10 min | 10 min |
| Vivekananda Rock Memorial | 45 min | 60 min |
| Glass bridge + statue | 30 min | 45 min |
| Return queue and crossing | 15–20 min | 30–45 min |
| Total | About 2 hours | 3–5 hours |
That is why our one-day Kanyakumari itinerary puts the ferry straight after the sunrise at Triveni Sangam and before the temples reopen in the afternoon.
Kanyakumari Vivekananda Rock Boat Online Booking Tips: What to Carry, Children, Seniors & Photos
What to carry
- Original photo ID for every adult whose name is on the booking.
- Water, a cap and sunscreen – the queue sheds and the bridge are hot by 10 AM.
- Small cash for the memorial ticket and the footwear stand on the rock.
- A dry snack that survives a bag: a pouch of Nendran banana chips or murukku beats anything sticky. More ideas on our Kanyakumari famous snacks page. Eat in the queue, not on the rock – it is a memorial, and litter is frowned on.
Children
Life jackets come in limited small sizes; ask for a child's jacket at the gangway and fasten it yourself. Hold small hands on the wet landing steps. The glass bridge thrills most kids – but a few freeze at the first panel, so walk the solid edges with them. Our Kanyakumari with kids guide has the rest of the day planned around nap times.
Senior citizens
There are steps at both landings and on the rock, and no lifts. Take the first slot when it is cool, buy Special Entry on busy days to cut the standing time, and seat elders near the middle of the boat where it rolls least. Families travelling with parents should also read our tour plan for senior citizens.
Photography
Phones are fine on the boat and outdoors on the rock. Photography is not allowed inside the meditation hall. The best shot of the statue is from the boat's right side on the way out; the best shot of the rock is from the statue islet looking back. And if you are not crossing at all, the shoreline view below is free.
Getting to the Jetty at Opening Time
Kanyakumari town is small, but the jetty road is one-way in places and parking fills by 9 AM on weekends. From Nagercoil it is about 20 km, 35–45 minutes by road; from Trivandrum Airport about 90 km, so a same-morning ferry from a flight is unrealistic. Government buses run frequently from Nagercoil's Vadasery and Anna bus stands, but the first ones will not get you to the gate for an 8 AM slot.
That is the practical case for a car: the driver drops you at the jetty road at 7:45, parks, and is waiting when you return at ten. Compare options in our sightseeing cab booking guide, or see the fixed-route one-day sightseeing car package that builds the whole day around the first ferry. After the boat, the Kumari Amman temple is a five-minute walk – check the temple timings and dress code before you go, as the sanctum closes around midday.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Poompuhar Shipping Corporation online booking for the Kanyakumari ferry done?
Only on the official Poompuhar Ferry Service portal, psckfs.tn.gov.in, run by Poompuhar Shipping Corporation Limited, a Government of Tamil Nadu undertaking. The Kanniyakumari district administration website links to the same portal. Other sites selling "Vivekananda Rock tickets" are resellers.
What is the Vivekananda Rock Memorial boat online ticket booking price?
As listed on the official portal in October 2026, Normal Entry is ₹100 per person and Special Entry is ₹300 per person. Special Entry only buys a place in the shorter priority queue; both board the same boats. The Vivekananda Rock Memorial entry (about ₹20–₹30) is paid separately on the rock.
What are the Kanyakumari ferry timings?
Ferries run roughly 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily, weather and tide permitting, with the last return boats from the rocks trailing towards 5 PM. Online slots are sold in 30-minute blocks and booking closes 30 minutes before each slot.
How to book Kanyakumari boating ticket online and check live ticket availability?
Open psckfs.tn.gov.in, choose your date, and the portal shows each 30-minute slot with live ticket availability for Normal and Special Entry. Select a slot, add passengers with names matching their photo IDs, pay online and save the e-ticket. A slot showing 0 tickets is sold out or already closed.
What happens to my online ferry ticket if the sea is rough?
The portal states that sailings are suspended when wind exceeds about 25–30 knots, visibility drops below roughly 1 km, or the IMD issues an alert, and that suspensions are announced at least two hours ahead by SMS. You can cancel your own booking up to 6 hours before departure; refunds reach your account in 2–7 working days. For operator-cancelled slots, contact the helpline listed on the portal.
Is Thiruvalluvar Statue boat booking separate from Vivekananda Rock?
No separate boat ticket is needed in 2026. One Poompuhar ferry ticket takes you to Vivekananda Rock, and since 30 December 2024 you walk the 77-metre glass bridge from the rock to the Thiruvalluvar Statue islet instead of taking a second boat.
Is online ferry booking Kanyakumari compulsory, or can I buy at the jetty counter?
Yes, the ticket counter at the Kanyakumari jetty still sells Normal and Special tickets on the day. On ordinary weekdays outside the holiday season the counter works fine if you arrive before 8 AM; on weekends, December–January and summer holidays, online booking saves hours.
