• Glass bridge walk — counter ticket. The bridge connecting Vivekananda Rock to the Thiruvalluvar Statue islet has its own small ticket, normally bought at the counter on the Rock after you land.
• Vivekananda Rock Memorial entry — counter ticket. A separate small entry fee, also paid on the Rock.
• Beware of third-party "booking" sites. Only the official Poompuhar portal issues genuine ferry e-tickets. Tour aggregators reselling "glass bridge tickets" at a markup are buying the same counter tickets you can buy yourself.

2. Step-by-Step: Booking the Ferry Online

1. Open the official portal. Search for the Poompuhar Shipping Corporation Kanyakumari ferry booking site (the corporation is a Tamil Nadu government undertaking — look for the official domain, not an aggregator).
2. Pick your date and time slot. Choose the earliest morning slot you can manage. Boats start around 8 AM; morning seas are calmest and afternoon sailings are the first to be cancelled when the wind picks up.
3. Choose ticket class. Ordinary and priority queues board the same boats — the premium fare buys a shorter wait, not a better seat.
4. Enter passenger details and pay. Standard UPI, card, and net-banking options work. Save the PDF e-ticket to your phone and take a screenshot as backup — mobile signal at the crowded jetty can crawl.
5. On the day, go straight to the e-ticket boarding line. You still queue for boarding, but you skip the long counter line, which on holiday weekends is the difference between a 30-minute wait and a two-hour one.

3. Prices to Budget For

Think of the trip as two or three small payments rather than one: the ferry fare (roughly ₹35–₹40 ordinary each way, priority costlier), the glass bridge walk fee, and the Rock Memorial entry — each in the tens of rupees. 4. When Online Booking Really Matters

• December & January: Peak season at the Cape — holiday crowds, the Kottar church feast, and New Year sunrise pilgrims. Book online, always.
• Weekends & public holidays: Counter queues regularly cross two hours. Online slots sell out a day or two ahead.
• Monsoon months (roughly October–December): Booking matters less than weather — sailings are suspended on rough-sea days regardless of your ticket, and the portal or jetty will confirm refund/rebooking on cancelled slots. Keep your plan flexible.
• Ordinary weekdays: Arriving before 8 AM and buying at the counter is perfectly workable.

5. What to Carry for the Crossing

The queue has little shade, the crossing is breezy, and there is nowhere reliable to buy food between the jetty and the Rock. Locals carry water, a cap, and a pocket-friendly dry snack — a packet of Nendran banana chips or murukku survives a beach bag far better than anything that needs a plate.
